RADIO 1 Broadcast School

 

Steps to attend RADIO1 and begin your radio career....
1) Apply to Radio1 Broadcast School via online application, mailing paper application, or calling. Remember to choose your style of radio education -- 7-week in-house session OR flexible individualized program.
 
2) Pass the reading and voice test via phone or in person. This will be your acceptance into the radio broadcast program.
 

3) Sign and return the acceptance paperwork  and the $100 enrollment fee to Radio1. 

 

For individualized program

coordinate the start date with the director. Tuition must be paid in-full two weeks prior to the start date. 

5) Instructional materials are mailed to you so that you may begin your individualized program.

6) Begin reading and learning the instructional materials. There are approximately 30 hours of reading and writing assignments. At least the first 10 hours of specific assignments must be completed before beginning hands-on studio instruction and studio practice. 

7) Schedule the initial five hours of studio instruction session with the director at whichever facility location your prefer.
8) Begin your studio practice in the on-air and production studios. Studio practice will be about 180 hours total including prep time. After every four hours of studio practice there will be a critique session with the instructor. Each critique session lasts approximately 20-30 minutes.
 

For BOTH programs --

As part of the program, you will create an audition CD using your best production, news casts, promotions, and on-air examples. Assemble a résumé and cover letter  to send along with the audition CD. 

 
10) Congratulations! You are ready to begin your radio career!  Upon completing all studio hours and assignments, you will have earned your Radio1 graduation certificate. Congrats, radio professional! You can then start applying for the radio job of  your preference.
